While translation is the written facet of our profession, interpreting is its oral counterpart. The translator usually works alone, whereas the interpreter is permanently in contact with other people, right at the centre of the action, whether a conference, negotiation, business meal, a company visit or a training course. Depending on the nature of the mission, the interpreter translates simultaneously, as during the speaker's presentation, or consecutively, when interfacing between the parties during negotiations, whispering aside to the guest, communicating between the instructor and the trainees, or speaking in front of the visiting delegation.
The interpreter has a wide range of skills. We decided to specialise in a sector perfectly matching our fields of competence:
interpreting during technical training courses.
Our services are requested when technicians need to take part in a training course abroad or when an instructor has been invited to give courses abroad. We then act as interface to ensure that the knowledge is correctly transmitted and understood. This is the objective of a training course: not just to transfer knowledge, but ensure that it is understood.
Communication between trainees and instructor is essential in this type of situation, which explains why we often extend our passive role as simple intermediate and play an active part in the learning process.
As a neutral party, we are often in a position to identify and anticipate communication problems, whether a misunderstanding due to cultural reasons, an imprecise explanation given by the instructor, a trainee lost when concentration slackens, an excess of theory to be backed up urgently by practical work, insufficient information on a specific point. With short explanations, we try to remedy the situation so that everyone reaches their objective.
To date, we have offered our interpreting services during training courses on the following subjects:
Machine tools: lathes, machining centres
- mechanics
- electricity
- commissioning
- handling
- programming
Radio communication (digital networks)
- theory
- installation and commissioning of networks
- network management
- network maintenance (antenna, switch troubleshooting, data backup)
- programming of mobiles
- user management
We would be pleased to extend our field of knowledge during technical training courses on other machines or installations or in other fields, after suitable preparation from documents specific to the company and to the project.
Since these training courses are highly specialised, we only offer our services in languages in which we have a thorough understanding: French (our mother tongue) and German. Occasionally, for a familiar subject, we also accept interpreting missions from English into French.
